Giving back to the community is important to us at Clayton Heights Optometry. Here are a few ways we try to spread kindness:
Project Eyecare
In 2017, Dr. Mona developed and launched “Project Eyecare” an outreach program where we volunteer to provide free vision screenings, including vision testing and limited ocular health testing to those members of our community who do not have access to eye care and cannot afford eyeglasses. We have heard stories from losing everything in a house fire, being hit by a train resulting in TBI, to simply making wrong life decisions and being left homeless. Imagine life not being able to see the world clearly and/or not being able to read. This can significantly impact a person’s emotional and mental health status. Dr. Mona’s objective is to try to help improve the quality of life for these unfortunate individuals a little bit by providing them with a clearer world. To date, we have done 4 clinics, one at a women’s shelter and ongoing at a homeless charity organization, NightShift Street Ministries. We have done over 50 screenings and provided 45 complete pair of glasses to those who needed them, some to those who have not had an eye exam in 20 years and have prescriptions of over -/+3.00! We will continue to provide care with Project Eyecare at NightShift Street Ministries. If you would like to help or donate to this cause, please contact our office. You can read more at https://nightshiftministries.org/clearly-sharing-compassionate-care/
We are very thankful to the following companies for donating frames: Marcolin, Ku’ver, Modern Optical and Opticaset and to Hoya Vision Canada, who have generously donated much needed lenses. Project Eyecare has been a very humbling experience for all of us as we meet some amazing individuals.
Annual Winter Warm Clothing Drive
Every winter, we are having a Warm Clothing Drive. We collect gently used coats, hats, mitten, scarves and blankets in the office which then are dropped off to a local shelter.
Charitable Donations
We believe children are our future so Clayton Heights Optometry supports them through donations to local schools for their various fundraising events. We also donate to local children’s sports teams.
We also donate to Seva Canada. Seva Canada is a charity whose mission is to restore sight and prevent blindness in developing countries. Seva works to establish locally managed eye care programs that will continue to serve people and communities long after Seva’s involvement is complete. If you would like to know more about this organization or would like to donate, you can access them at seva.ca
